Towns we cover
Lake Charles, LA
About 84,900 people (2020 Census). Laura gusted to 133 mph at the airport and 137 mph downtown. Permits come from the city Permit Center on Pujo Street, and any pool deeper than 24 in needs a code barrier.
Sulphur, LA
About 21,800 people, west across the Calcasieu River. The city runs its own permit office and prices the permit from the job's cost. San Juan lists a fiberglass dealer here.
Moss Bluff, LA
About 12,500 people just north of Lake Charles, and one of the parish's growing suburbs. It's unincorporated, so the parish issues permits and asks for an elevation survey.
Prien, LA
About 7,700 people along Prien Lake. Parts have been annexed into Lake Charles, so check whether your lot is city or parish before you apply.
Carlyss, LA
About 5,100 people south of Sulphur. Unincorporated: parish permits and the parish survey rule apply.
Westlake, LA
About 4,800 people in an industrial city across the river, where the BioLab pool-chlorine plant burned after Laura. Westlake has its own building office.
Iowa, LA
About 3,400 people on I-10 east of Lake Charles. A separate town, so start at town hall for the pool permit.
Vinton, LA
About 3,400 people near the Texas line. Beaumont-area builders are close, but check that any company holds a Louisiana pool license.
DeQuincy, LA
About 3,100 people, the parish's northernmost city. Laura's heaviest measured rain, 11.74 in, fell near Starks to the west.
Jennings, LA
About 9,800 people in Jefferson Davis Parish, a different permit office. Its rice-prairie soils drain slowly, so plan for water in the dig.
